I love this particular filter on you. Beautiful! What a great idea to do 12 bar blues for improv. I’m going to incorporate this into one of my teen group workshops! Thx for this video!
You’re welcome!
Oh my goodness, so helpful!!! Just little tips and tricks along the way go so far...thank you!!!
I'd love to hear what your biggest challenges are when it comes to composing in your studio and how you balance teaching with more creative pursuits. Let me know in the comments below.
Exllent teacher
This is not what the Fender rhodes play.
You go to fast to hard to learn
Great content
Do you think that it works also with an E-Ink-Tablet?
No idea! Try looking it up in the App Store if your device has one
I love “ now you’re ready for”. That is so good!! I have a 9-year old female student who often gets defensive when I gently point out something that needs fixing. She’ll say “ I DID do that!” in a rather huffy tone. Hmm.
Ah, love to hear from Christina in your series - a lovely thought provoker in our community!
"Being a good boss to yourself". YES. So wonderful in thought, so tough sometimes in action!
"downtime struggler" here too. I've realized that I do best when I gift myself side projects that are energizing. I am learning, but like you two busy bees, "doing" is actually pretty fun and life giving.
I was so glad to do this - literally at sea until 15 Aug and can’t access RUclips properly but look forward to seeing it when I get home
Enjoy your trip!
I really like, “now you’re ready for…”. I’ve been trying to figure out how to not use “buts.” I’m grateful I came across your channel. I’m grateful for your insights.
You are so welcome!
I'd love to hear what skills you felt you had missed out on in your childhood lessons. Let me know in the comments below.
Thank you for making this video. I'm autistic and I have ADHD. I've been playing music since I was six and I studied at two different conservatories and dropped out of both of them. Formalized music education is not neurodivergent friendly at all. I wish even one of my teachers had half your understanding of neurodivergence and the openness to look at music from a different perspective.
Great suggestions: my favs are 2 & 13, though dancing will also be part of some of my students curriculum next semester. Greetings from Denmark (Europe) 😊
That's so special that you've found a gap in the materials for violin! We agree and really struggled to find well thought out materials for violin teachers here. Well done!
So happy to listen in! Great topic!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What would creating your own method book do for you and your studio? I'd love to hear what you'd include! Let me know in the comments below.
Such a unique idea. I've never added it to my list, but I think if I did something it would have to include improv duets for beginners that they could play with family members - even with not much music experience - playfulness at the piano would likely be something I'd include now that I would have thought of before!
Love that thought of SINGABLE repertoire! Wonderful.
Thankyou gorgeous girl🎹🎶🌼
Great job on the video. However, my signup doesn't include the checkbox tor the option to hide personal information like address and phone number. I am wondering how to find it. Your video was made 4 yrs ago. Do you know where it may have moved to? Thanks in advance. Update:.I think I figured it out! Thanks.
Glad you found it!
Yes! Habit stacking is so very helpful over here and I love competitions with myself too. I did that when making flower baskets as a teen and college student and made so many that I got a paid afternoon off as they didn't want to punish me for being so efficient. lol.
Ha! That’s hilarious an very good of them! Many employers would not reward that efficiency 😂
Hey there, I'm an MTB piano examiner. Great to hear you like the feedback! We do try to weigh more towards the positive aspects of a performance with areas to be improved framed in a constructive way. From "the other side" it's great hearing such a variety of playing in both Performance and Practical formats of the exams. I've learnt a great deal as a teacher from being an examiner too. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
That’s lovely to hear! Keep up the great work on the examining side! I really appreciate the student-centred, positive work that you’re doing. ❤️
Would you say MTB are as strict as ABRSM when marking?
It's hard to say as the marking criteria are quite different in some ways. And it always depends on the examiner's point of view. I think where MTB try to set themselves apart from ABRSM is that the comments and feedback are much more constructive and in easy to understand language as Nicola pointed out. Also, each exam is marked by an instrumental specialist (i.e. piano exams marked by piano specialist, violin exam by a violin specialist etc). I have had bad experiences with my students in both ABRSM and Trinity and continue to hear negatives about both of "the big two". MTB offers a great alternative for the same outcome of qualification. So if you've not tried it, it's worth giving it a go especially at beginner level
@@justapiano88 I’ve just done my grade 3 w/ MTB today
@@justapiano88 but I hit two wrong notes on a piece and I’m worried it’ll lose me a ton of marks
Yes, i've adored those shorter recitals too and used to host 4 per recital day to make that happen!
Oh my goodness! Kate Boyd was my professor in undergrad! She is an excellent pianist and teacher. This is a legendary collaboration 🥰.
So cool!
SUCH a fun idea!!
Thanks!
I love this idea!! Thank you
You’re welcome ☺️
Where do i get all these books ?

4. I posted one longer comment, but YT kept deleting it and I don't know (and don't have time for it) to figure out what is the trigger word.
1. Poor Beethoven, all he had were mp3s on paper 🙂.
3. I forgot to ask sooner, what happened to colorful frames rule? 😀
How lovely to see two lovely teachers together ❤ Love both your channels
Thanks so much! 😊
Great topic and wonderful to hear from Kate - love following her on RUclips!
Love those big thoughts too of repertoire pacing and the capacity to be always learning fresh music.
Kate’s awesome 🤩
Hi
I LOVE the Vivid Practice app SO MUCH! And I love that it just keeps getting better!!!!! Thank you for listening to our feedback and ideas and implementing them. :):) I'm super excited for the Draft Assignments, and the collections sounds like it's going to be great too! Thank you so much!!!
Our pleasure!
Excited to see Paul here! I just finished up a group piano class course with him and Gillian this week!
Great thoughts. For me I think I procrastinate on tasks with multiple steps that take a lot of executive function and the need to complete the task before moving on. I find that hard unless deep into hyperfocus mode without distractions.
I hope you found my Q&A with Amy useful! I'd love to know if presenting at conferences is on your bucket list and what topics you'd love to present. Let me know in the comments below.
What a fun topic! Lovely to listen in!
We have added audience participation for the last few years in our recitals and will absolutely be keen to add some of these - thank you!
"a Magpie" I love that and it's SO relatable - lol!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching! If you're catching up with the replay, let me know how your recitals went and what ideas you've been playing around with this year.
Love the "if you arnt a great player, then dont teach" In the youtube land of closet musicians teaching without ever playing professionally. Great video, very realistic.
If you have any books you'd love for me to check out, let me know in the comments below!
How fun to see you wonderful ladies together on a video! Great topic!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So much YES!
there are many "Do nots" but nobody really knows the "DO" when kids cry
This video is a short excerpt from a longer live I did. Check that out as I definitely go through what to do and much more.
I always start sobbing when someone asks me how I am
are you ok mate
I bought a cheap Alesis Recital piano at Amazon. It's 88 keys and has been OK to learn on and has 5 sounds. But I played some nice Roland and Yamaha pianos at Costco. 🎹 👍
Thank you for explaining this! I am a beginner student with the NV10S. My teacher is using several duet lessons where he plays the rhythm and I play the melody. I recorded his part on my iPhone and am happy that I can play them through the piano while I play my part.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for watching! I'm curious to hear if you have any more book recommendations for me to review. Let me know in the comments below.
